Description

Many people have told me different things about this photo. Some say it shows how coal mining intrudes on nature, crashing right through it. Others say they believe it shows a mine interacting with the environment and almost seemlessly.

I believe this photo is a beautiful picture, and it quietly captures some controversy and that coal mines can interact within nature as well. I think it says both. But the story of coal can’t be told through one photo, that’s for sure. Despite what all of the anti-coal activists who put together these documentaries that show coal stripped mountains, it’s just not that simple. There are a lot of lives affected by coal mining, for better and of course for worse.
