It was just chaos for several minutes after arriving on scene to a fight call. About 30 or more people were running all around, and there were few police officers there yet. I photographed this little girl for a few minutes, then noticed another picture: The kids who weren’t hurt, but absorbing this lifestyle.
How sad? The little boy on the left said he was 6, his friends said he was 7. The one of the left didn’t even have shoes to ride his bike. It was dark, and they were out running the streets. I felt sorry for them, and I hope this picture brings that pitty too, but also helps Memphis realize something about its crime.
That it’s learned, not innate.
