Description

This was another decent shot from the Bellarmine game I shot last week. A few things I like: Great face – The player in the white jersey has what a photographer calls a great face (but I think the player would probably disagree). It’s peak action – she’s at about her highest point of her jump, with the heading of the ball actually happening. Depth – There’s a lot going on with the header, the other player is getting elbowed in the face, and it’s just interesting to look at all this action.

A few things I don’t like: Cluttered background – This field is beautiful, and the only problem is that in the evening the light is best on the opposite side of the stands. That puts the teams and the stands cluttering up your background. The longer lens you use the cleaner that can get, but it shows why it can be bad with the players on the sidelines in those bright jerseys.

Tad soft – The primary player in this picture is pretty sharp. I wish the other player was as sharp, but I think this picture definitely qualifies as “AP Sharp.” Had this been shot on my 5D Mark II I can say it would appear sharper because there would be less grain, but at that sluggish frame rate, I can’t promise I would have gotten the peak action.

I just thought I’d throw out a little something different this morning instead of telling you why I love photography, again, I could toss out what about this specific picture is good and bad. Let me know if you agree or disagree. Or maybe I missed something.
