I had a slow assignment on Monday. It was basically a news conference for the United Way and some kids sang, but it didn’t produce very much at first. Then, as I was outside and about to leave I decided to photograph a bus that had a donated United Way advertisement on it. I figured if nothing else it helped me complete a well rounded slideshow. Then I turned around and saw this. Kids staring and pointing at the bus. This way, I get bus (reflection), cute kids (not singing, but who cares) and hopefully a happy editor in a dark newsroom (Courier Journal).

Mason looks like he’s mad at momma, but he’s really super ticked at me. I come into his house, make him take off all of his clothes and have bright lights flash in his face for an hour and a half. I’d be mad, too.

The blog gets back to photojournalism with a post tomorrow: I found a good picture at a pretty bad assignment.

Meet Mason. This is one of my favorites from my first baby photo shoot. Mason’s mom, Laura, asked me to come over and take a few photos of him, because they want to create a nice timeline while he grows up. He is six weeks old here, and being held by his dad, Derek.

This is a beautiful image for me, because this is the kind of thing you see and don’t think much about. I saw this and originally wanted to make a photo of Jon’s cute sneakers (the blog post from a few days ago), but then I notice all of the interesting geometric shapes and colors and actually ended up liking this image more than the first.

You guys may remember this little lady from my old blog. Emily is curious about the camera. I was actually photographing my other cousin (check out yesterday’s post), when I noticed Emily just standing there looking at me. She never said a word, but didn’t mind me taking her photo.

This is one of the nicest sports portraits I think I have ever taken. The gymnasium wasn’t all that much to look at, so I was pretty pleased with this. It was basically my light-gimmick that I’ve been doing lately. I need a few more lights to start getting way complicated.
